Coffee & Oreo no churn ice cream

Do you think it says something about your personality on how you answer cone v. cup? I’ve wondered this since the 5th grade. Just so we’re clear, I’m a waffle cone person. It’s the more adventurous option. There are so many ways to customize it – sprinkles, nuts, shredded coconut, chocolate dipped, caramel dipped, candy pieces, cereal pieces – so many options!

After making the mint chocolate chip no churn ice cream, I became obsessed with wanting to try new flavors. On Instagram, I polled the audience and the Oreo coffee flavor was the winner + Heath candy bar because my mama requested it.

I love the combination of these flavors because you get the crunch of the Oreo, the bitterness of the coffee and the extra chocolate from the Heath bar. You can really but any chocolate bar in there like Twix or Snickers and I bet it would taste amazing.

Who might be wondering:

What is no churn ice cream?

Well, it literally means you don’t need an ice cream maker to churn the ice cream. It usually takes just 10 minutes to whip up!

What ingredients do I need?

Two key ingredients: heavy whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk. Then, the rest is up to you! Typically, you’d use vanilla extract + whatever flavor mix-ins you prefer. In this recipe instant coffee, Oreos and Heath bars were added.

What type of equipment do I need?

Like I said, no ice cream maker required! If you have a KitchenAid or a hand-mixer, that’ll be the easiest thing to use to whip the heavy cream. Otherwise, if you have an arm of steal, be my guest and whisk away.

The last thing you’ll need is something to freeze the ice cream in. I use this metal bread loaf pan lined with parchment paper for an easy clean up.

How long will the ice cream last in the freezer?

At my apartment, not very long. But if you must ration it, I’d say it’ll stay fresh for two weeks in a tightly sealed container.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 24 Oreos, crushed
  • 2 Heath candy bars (or chocolate bar of choice), chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water

Instructions

  1. Cover a loaf pan with parchment paper. This will help with clean up after full consumption!
  2. In a small bowl, combine instant coffee with water and mix until grains have dissolved. Set aside.
  3. In a quart-sized baggie, put Oreos inside, zip close (with a tiny hole open for air to escape), and crush cookies with your iron fists. Set aside.
  4. If using a Kitchen Aid, pour heavy whipping cream into bowl and mix on speed number 4 (medium) for 5-6 minutes, or until stiff peaks form.
  5. Pour condensed milk, coffee and vanilla extract over the whipped cream and gently fold in. Do not over-mix!
  6. Pour Oreos and chopped chocolate into mixture and once again fold in.
  7. Pour ice cream mixture into loaf pan and garnish the top with more chocolate and Heath bar.
  8. Cover pan with plastic wrap and freeze for 12-24 hours. The hardest part!
  9. Scoop on top of your favorite cookie, brownie or whatever you like. Enjoy!
