Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie

Like many of you, I’ve spent the last year and a half working remotely. To be specific, 18 months out of office. Tbh, when I still see people’s Slack status messages as “working remotely,” I’m like dude, we know. That being said, while I’ve had the luxury of working from anywhere, I spent seven weeks at my parents’ house during the holidays last year.

Yes, Tik Tok videos, more space, endless snacks (sometimes brought to me during Zoom meetings) and new adventure walks for Beau were indeed a delightful time. One of the habits I picked up while creating my new routine of working from upstairs, became drinking smoothies every morning for breakfast.

Whenever I used to go into the office, I would sleep until the very last alarm before jumping onto my bike and commuting to work. I hardly left any time to eat breakfast – and if I did, it was a KIND bar. But now, I have the luxury of sleeping until the last minute and commuting six small steps to my desk. This leaves the perfect time for, you guessed it – smoothies.

I can tell you after almost a full year of drinking these every day, I have perfected this recipe to the T. Tbh, sometimes while lying in bed at night I think about how I can’t wait to drink this dang drink. Does anybody else do this? Think about what they’re going to eat for breakfast before it even happens?

Well, if you try this recipe, this could be you, too.

You Might Be Wondering:

Do the blueberries need to be frozen?

It’s preferred! This helps as to not add ice to the smoothie which can bland the flavor. My preferred brand of blueberries is Wyman’s which is sold at Whole Foods and some other grocery stores.

Can the banana be frozen?

Yes! Just know this will make your smoothie a lot thicker. But sometimes when buying bananas in bulk at the store, it’s easier to throw some in the freezer so they don’t overripen.

Can I add additional fruit or greens?

You could, but I am so devoted to this recipe I could cry. If you were to add greens, I would suggest spinach.

Tell me about cashew milk.

Believe it or not, cashew milk is a nondairy bevy made of cashews and water. It has a super-rich and creamy consistency and is full of all the right vitamins, proteins and fats you need for a healthy diet. And, it’s only 25 calories per cup! Silk brand is go-to.

What protein powder should I use?

I am sold on Orgain Organic Protein Powder – Creamy Chocolate Fudge. I also asked my personal fitness instructor and best friend if this was a good one. You know, I wanted to make sure it didn’t have too much sugar in it where it defeats the purpose kinda thing, and she approved! Thank you, Abby. It’s available fo

I've never been one to find a recipe smoothie that I love enough to drink it daily but this one is it. Personally, I'm not a fan of protein powder (taste, texture, you name it) so I omit that one item but occasionally I'll throw in a couple extra frozen fruits to "mix" it up or some frozen spinach. This is so easy to make that it becomes breakfast most days of the week.
